LG G2 Smartphone Unveiled with Rear Not Side Controls

LG G2 smartphone unveiled with rear not side controls. The LG G2 smartphone, LG’s new flagship phone, was unveiled in NYC yesterday.  LG hopes the G2 can compete with the popular Samsung series and iPhone with strong specs and some new innovations, which include rear instead of side controls.

Rear control means LG has place the phone’s power and volume controls/switches on the rear of the phone, vs. the usual sides, which I think might be a welcome design change since it is nearly impossible to hold a new smartphone by its “sides” without touching one of those controls (like when we are about to snap a pic and, zooooooom, we inadvertently touch the volume controls that usually dub for the zoom controls – and have to reset the camera.

If your kids continue to run up the apps tab when you’re not looking, the G2 offers a solution. Guest Mode is a built-in alternative to the many apps available, which address the challenge of kids and assorted others having unsupervised control of our phone – and apps stores!

G2 specs as announced:

– 5.2-inch 1080p IPS screen (bezel to bezel – fancy term for a screen with no dead space, no “frame” like surface but instead the functional touch screen covers the entire screen…kinda like an endless pool :)
– 2.26GHz Qualcomm, Snapdragon 8974 processor
– 2GB of RAM memory
– 13-megapixel rear camera (covered with sapphire glass)
– 2.1-megapixel front camera (so dual cameras)
– 32GB of internal storage (24GB usable)
– battery: 3000mAh, over a day’s life.
– No MicroSD card (humm…)
– Audio zoom:  sounds enhanced as you zoom in for video. Only smartphone that can play 24bit, 192kHz FLAC and WAV files.  Also enhanced sound (LG making a very big deal of this)
– Ability to act as TV remote
– Guest Mode
